Hello ARMY

Author's Note

I’m new AMRY recruit and saw the boys for the first time on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke in February this year. As many people have done, I fell into the trap of “just wanting to learn their names” and have since been chowing down BTS video after BTS video. #covid19 #stayhome

The reason I’ve created this blog is because I have fallen down a deep rabbit hole. It all started when I watched RUN BTS Episode 85 and was confused by the gift exchange between Jin and Namjoon. What’s up with that whale? What is that white looking alpaca thing? Why are those gifts meaningful? Why did tell Jin tell Namjoon to wear his gifts during “LOVE”? What song is that? Assuming there is a well-known backstory to it, I started researching to understand the meaning behind the exchange.

Surprisingly, there weren’t many consistent explanations out there. Many explanations felt a bit “off” and didn’t quite justify Namjoon’s strong reaction when he realised that those gifts are indeed meaningful.

I also had many questions about the Love Yourself albums that I could not find an answer to. Why do some songs in the first and second albums appear in the third album but not others? Why not have just three unique track lists for each album like what most artists would do? Why do only some songs have both and English and Korean name and some don’t? Why not be consistent and give all of them an English and Korean name especially since they mean the same thing? Why is there an Intro and Outro track in the first two albums and not the third? Why give three songs the prefix “Trivia”? Why Trivia? Why name the song 134340 instead of just Pluto? Why have two hidden tracks when they are not that hidden anyway? Why have four flowers on the cover of Love Yourself 承: Her and then not explain what they symbolise? Why create a whole Smearldo Flower folklore for one song? Why do all of these things if they mean nothing? These irregularities and oddities irked and bothered me.

Then, I found Namjin Home. And whilst, I had my reservations at the start, after diving deeper and listening to more BTS songs, I’ve realised that holy moly… Namjoon Namjoon Namjoon…. this guy has been hiding so many things in plain sight. His lyrics and messages are elegant.

Given Namjoon’s reputation as a genius lyricist, I do believe Namjoon (and the rest of the members) have delicately and purposefully sewn messages into the fabric of their lyrics, from the order of the track list, the colour of the albums, who they collaborate with, even right down to the ambiguous way they pronounce certain words.

Every word that is written is thoughtfully chosen, placed, and spoken to carry multiple meanings.

As I feel like I may have observed deeper meanings behind his and BTS’ lyrics and (for now) the Love Yourself Series albums, I felt like I had to create a blog to share them with you and so that I can clearly explain bit by bit, how things are linked together to form one big story. I sincerely do believe these are the little secrets BTS hope we may uncover one day and enjoy.

I must emphasise that many of my theories (especially the ones at the start) are built on theories that other people already had. I will always acknowledge and reference the sources where the ideas are not mine. If I happen to discuss ideas that other people have already discussed – I’m really sorry, but there is just so much content out there! I don’t ever mean to plagiarise. Please do let me know and I will always be more than happy to include your links in my posts.

Please remember, I’m only a new recruit, there is A LOT of BTS content to digest and uncover, and already I have 25 pages of scattered incomplete notes of various songs, patterns I’ve noticed and mind maps. I just need to start recording my findings somewhere and I hope I will keep uncovering more as I go along. So if you think I’ve missed things or there is something I should look into please do let me know!

And please, no hate. I love all seven members equally. I’m merely sharing with you my theories based on my interpretations of their amazing songs. Hence, enjoy, and I purple you ARMY.

    1. Hi Dani, thank you! 🥳☺️ Yes, I tweeted about that! The lyrics of Don’t will hit you VERY differently if you read all my blog in order haha. There are actually just so many references and background context leading up to it. Like the waves, sea, moon etc. Namjoon’s is an incredibly consistent and sincere lyricist!

Hope you enjoy your journey to discovering their stories!! 🥳 You should have seen my goosebumps when I first discovered the pattern… 😂 I thought I was going mad…!

Borahae and pls take care of yourself too! Hope to see you on the other end of my blog or in discord soon! 😘

      1. Hi I really enjoying the blog so far, was wondering how to get the passwords to unlock the protected posts

  2. Hey, I found your blog via Namjin Home. My BTS journey started similarly – due to the pandemic, I was locked at home with my toxic then-boyfriend, worn out by chronic insomnia, exam stress and my increasingly worsening gaming obsession. Of course, I had heard of BTS before but I’d never thought of giving them a chance because my taste in music couldn’t be any farther from (K-)pop and related.
For unknown reasons, I started watching their MVs one day and then I “just wanted to know their names, that’s all”… 😉 before I fell down the rabbit hole. They were the only thing that calmed me down in those sleepless, anxiety-ridden nights that drag till sunrise and the source of comfort during the last stages of my abusive relationship.

This got longer than intended – just wanted to show my appreciation for your smart in-depth analyses and I can’t wait to read through your blog!

    Stay happy and healthy, borahae!

    1. Hi Elodi, I am so sorry to hear about what has been happening in your life 😢 I hope things are getting better and that you will find comfort in these songs lyrics, in BTS and in the fandom.

  3. Hello, G.
I have to say, I stumbled upon your blog in a similar fashion of you stumbling upon BTS after watching Carpool Karaoke 😊. I’ve been an ARMY since the Fake Love era but I dived into it thanks to the COVID-19 situation that has left me in lockdown since late March. Since then… well, let’s say I also fell down the rabbit hole.
The reason I stumbled upon your blog was simply that I wanted to understand more about the whole deal with Serendipity. I was reading BTS’ fan fictions at the time and several references came upon regarding it, though all of them referred to the Yoongi-Jimin relationship.
Naturally, I wanted to know more and your blog came between the results and, in comparison with other results, yours was the more objective one out there! Whether or not I think is a song representing the previously mentioned ship, I was fascinated by your detailed explanation.
You’re right, Namjoon is a genius when it comes to writing lyrics. And Yoongi does not stay behind much. Comparing them to Western and Latin songs (I am Latin American, so I can speak Spanish as well), the lyrics are not vague nor repetitive nor always stumbling upon the same issues over and over. Sure, they speak about love, but not necessarily they speak about that cheated love or that unattainable love. They speak not only about romantic love, but brotherly love, and love for the things that made you who you are (really dedicate a love song to a piano? Yoongi is a genius as well!).
Anyway, I don’t know what else to say, except that you’re very detailed and I like it very much 😊 I’ll start reading from the start whenever I get some time.
I hope you’re having a great time during this particular situation.
    Bora-hae!

    1. Hey Ella! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog! 🥰 I hope you enjoy it and start to see how everything is connected!

Before my theory was born, I thought it could be a Jimin/yoongi song too! But as I started learning that it was namjoon who wrote the songs… The Jimin/Yoongi theory didnt make sense to me. After all, how can you write a song about your friend being in love with someone in your friend’s perspective without any of their input? That is just not quite possible. How can you know exactly how your friend is feeling and express his/her feelings in the lyrics? If Jimin contributes even just one line to the song, or one word, he must be accredited. That is how the music industry works. Thus to me, the person behind the song can’t be jimin. It is Namjoon. Jimin is the actor who brings the song to life 💜

And you’re absolutely right, BTS speak about love, but they speak about ALL forms of love, and the good and the bad of it. It is really wonderful and I love them so much for it 🥰

Pls take your time reading my blog in order and hope you’re keeping safe and well! BTS have brought so much joy to us during these covid times, we are so so lucky to have them!

      Borahae lovely! 💜💜

  4. Hello again (from Twitter)!

I’ve been reading most of your posts on your LY theory and Smeraldo so far (now looking out for anything I may have missed) and I must say I’ve been amazed both by the amount of research you’ve made and by the pieces of analysis you’ve made so far on the songs.
That made me wonder about your background. Do you have a literature degree or do you really love reading literature and analyzing poems/prose?
With all that above, I had no idea you’ve recently become ARMY lol.
I’ve been an ARMY since early April of 2018 (Orthodox Easter came too early at that time) but i’ve grasped most stuff like last year and after paying close attention to what I was watching from them (concert videos, lyric videos, MVs etc).
I was – and I still am – inclined to the theory and story of self-love, though there were cases when I felt it wasn’t clicking much and your theory seems stronger.

I really can’t wait for your next updates since I have some vague ideas and I’m open to more future discussions !

    1. Hi lovely!

Thank you so much! 🥰 And thank you for taking the time to read my blog!

I studied literature in high school, which was donkey years ago. To be honest, I am surprised I remembered so much of it haha, I love to read and analyse things, but I stopped for years because of adulting and work. However, covid gave me the chance to take the time to dive back into it! I investigate things in my day job too haha, so that is probably why I had so many questions when I got to the LY series! 😅 So many unusual but yet intentional decisions were made… why???

And I do believe the entire album is about self-love, but like our lives… it is complex and there are many things that are happening at the same time. There are many things and causes that pushes us onto our own journeys to self-love, self-enlightening etc 😊 I just think the lyrics indicate joon’s journey to self-love includes a romantic love story. Yoongi’s one includes a love story, but a love story between friends, and Hobi’s one is about the love he and BTS have with ARMY 💜

And absolutely! Ping me when youre ready, i know you mentioned that you have some questions re some of the LY: Tear songs 😊 i will be happy to share whatever I (think) I know! 😊
